Wonderful and comforting afternoon naps

Now that I have retired from work and no longer have to spend the entire day in an office, I’ve found many things to do that make me quite happy, and, among them, is the luxury of taking an afternoon nap.

Naptime has become a delightful part of my day. I’m usually up and about by 7:00 a.m. and then it’s a non-stop day until it’s time to sit down for lunch, after which I’m more than ready for my few minutes of resting time…

Of course, there are several types of naps: if I know that I have things to do in the afternoon, I’ll probably just curl up on the sofa, while watching television, and doze off for a few minutes.

If my afternoon looks like it’s going to be relaxed, without too many errands to run, I’ll find a good book and lie on my bed and read until I slip away into a calm and refreshing nap – naps should never be too long; they shouldn’t last more than half an hour, at the most.

Summer naps are quite enjoyable too; usually taken by an open window, feeling the breeze (when there is one), and listening to the birds outside. These are usually lighter ones, given that hot weather is not usually ideal for nap-taking.

And then we have the best naps of all – the winter naps! Definitely, the best ones! There is nothing more delicious than wrapping yourself in a warm blanket, feeling protected – as if in a cocoon, with the day’s problems pushed away for a while, and letting yourself drift off into a sensation of calmness until you can fall into a light sleep for a few minutes.

It is a given that in order to start your afternoon again, there is nothing better than a hot and perfect cup of tea. Then you can be off, fully refreshed and alert, after those few wonderful minutes.

As you can tell, naps are something I fully recommend! If you have the time, enjoy them!
