And by living intensely I’m not referring to Bungee Jumping o trying your hand at skydiving (which is perfectly fine if that is what you would like to do…). In this case, I’m talking about our everyday attitude; to the permanent and constant use of our five senses.
A walk in the park can be a wonderful source of things to feel, hear, smell, see. We should take a minute to appreciate the music of the birdsongs, to actually look at the flowers and plants around us and see their beauty, texture and colors.
If the weather is cold and humid, there is nothing better than to bundle up and feel the soft, cool drizzle on our face; and if it’s summer, to feel the caressing warmth of the sun as it filters through the trees is absolutely delicious. We should take the time to actually look at the designs made by the shadows of the branches and leaves on the grass and listen to the sounds of the breeze as it makes them sway and quiver. All we have to do in order to enjoy this is to slow down and tune our senses to everything that surrounds us.
If we happen to enjoy cooking, as I do, the kitchen is one of the places in the home that offers us a wide range of sensations, primarily smell. Coffee, toast, vanilla… even garlic as it turns golden and fragrant when preparing rice.. these are all a feast to the senses. And this is true of every savory dish or dessert we prepare. The smells of the kitchen are absolutely wonderful!!! To me, they’re the smells of home…
We should remind ourselves that each day provides us with an opportunity to be surprised and to learn something new that can enrich our spirit. Let’s rouse our senses and find joy in our simple everyday experiences
